The general consensus of The Bugs Office is that the current news about the ‘Sugar Tax’ brings us a baby step closer to having a healthier, happier nation, which can only be a good thing!
The Brilliant news is that government will be putting that funding towards a really good cause – raising the profile on fun and beneficial sports activities for children in schools!
“The £530m raised by a tax on the sugar content of soft drinks – the equivalent of about 18-24p per litre, the government says – will be spent on primary school sports in England.” – BBC News
Another source says;
“The government claimed this would enable primary schools to improve facilities and the “quality and breadth” of physical education. The money could also be used to establish or improve after school clubs focusing on sport.
Up to £285m a year will provide 25 percent of schools “increased opportunity” to extend the school day. This extra time would let schools “offer a wider range of activities”, including sport. A further £10m a year will be allocated to expand breakfast clubs in up to 1,600 schools from September 2017.” – http://www.wired.co.uk/news
